r.i.p. four sisters

IMG_2530

for the past four years of high school, the first thing I saw when I walked out of school was the ‘four sisters’. for the first 2-3 of high school, the lakeview generating station polluted the air we breathed and we hated the smell of the air caused by the plant on some days. for the last year or so, the plant has been shut down in order to reduce pollution. I was extremely happy about this, being kind of an environmentalist myself. the ‘four sisters’ seemed like nothing more than sleeping giants thereafter… they were just a symbol of the applewood area where I go to school – it was to my school’s neighborhood what the cn tower is to toronto, or what the eiffel tower is to paris: a symbol, a logo, a way to recognize where you are…

well, a few days ago, the four sisters fell. they were destroyed. now when I walk outside my school, I see nothing… just a view of a normal soccer field, followed by some trees, then another school, some more trees, and then some houses – no pipes. the scene is not significant in any way, and that makes me sad. now, this could be related to the fact that I’m leaving high school in just a few days and am going to miss many people and many things, but I feel like I had lost a friend without a proper goodbye (I didn’t know they were going to be destroyed; I found out after it happened). I feel robbed of something that had become a part of me.
